Web Graphics

In addition to offering a full website design service, DRS Design can also create new graphics for a range of possible uses:

  • for your existing website
  • for use in an eBay shop
  • for use in an affiliate marketing programme
  • in order to offer stylish graphics to other sites for use in their link to your site

This page includes a selection of examples of banner ad graphics and other graphics options. If you are interested in having any web graphics created for you please call DRS Design on 07913 860 970 or use the contact page.

Incidentally, if you are interested in creating your own web graphics then you might like to know that the industry standard program for bit-mapped graphics is Adobe's Photoshop (the full version, not the scaled down 'Elements'). Photoshop is not cheap or easy to use, but it is incredibly powerful and if you're serious about creating web graphics yourself then you need a copy. Of course an alternative is to ask a web designer to create your graphics for you.

Looking for professional picture library images?

Have a look at iStockphoto. They offer a vast number of royalty-free, high quality images at various resolutions and all at very reasonable prices. You can search for images by keywords as well, so if you are looking for a picture to illustrate a concept or subject, iStockphoto often makes finding the right image an easy process.

Presenting Images as a Slideshow

Different images can be displayed in a slideshow sequence, with animated text as well if you like:

Sound could also be added, but bear in mind that offering multimedia rich content is always going to make a site slower to load for those on dial-up internet connections.

For example, the Flash animation sequence above is 667KB in size, and only takes a few seconds to download for the average broadband user, but it will take longer for anything to happen for a dial-up user. It is always important to think about who your target audience are and whether in offering multimedia rich content you might be pushing the file sizes too far. But used with restraint, Flash animations can add an extra dimension to the look of your site, if you want them. Contact DRS Design

Static JPGs and Animated GIFs

Web graphics created for you can be either static or animated. A word of caution about animations - generally speaking, less is more, and subtlety with animations is often a good idea. But a lot can depend on the context and ultimately it's your decision as to what you think looks right to you.

(If you cannot see the graphics below your computer may be running ad-blocking software which removes graphics from web pages if they appear to be banner advertising. To view most websites as intended by the creator of the site you need to switch off such filtering. With banner filtering switched on your software may interfere with the web pages you view without alerting you that it has done so).

Web Graphics and Affiliate Marketing

Make money from your website

Banner adverts are commonly seen on the web, often because of an affiliate marketing arrangement. If you run a website, you could be making money from carrying advertising for other sites on your own site. And if you have a business you need to promote, then joining an affiliate programme as a merchant can give you wide advertising exposure across the Web, potentially driving up your sales. If you are new to affiliate marketing, here's a brief summary of how it works:

There are two categories of participants in affiliate marketing, commonly called 'affiliates' and 'merchants'. Affiliates display advertising on behalf of merchants. The affiliate is not paid in advance for displaying any of the merchant's advertising, instead a system exists for the tracking of first any clicks, and then of any sales, made through the advertising.

The affiliate is usually paid a commission on any sales that take place through someone following a link from the affiliate's site to the merchant's site.

Joining an affiliate marketing programme as an affiliate is usually completely free. Joining an affiliate programme as a merchant is usually subject to a fee, charged by the agency that runs the programme, but for this fee the merchant gets the benefit of being in the pool of merchants for whom that agency's affiliates carry advertising.

If you are interested in finding out more about affiliate marketing, either as an affiliate or as a merchant, below are links to two companies who run such programmes:

If you are interested in participating in an affiliate scheme as a merchant, then you may like to consider having industry-standard sized banner adverts and graphics created for you by DRS Design, so you can offer these graphics to affiliates for their use in advertising your business. It is important that the graphics you offer to affiliates conform to the industry-standard sizes, as most websites which carry advertising have 'slots' on the page of exact pixel dimensions. For your own advert to fit in one of these spaces and look correct in terms of perspective it has to be of the exact pixel dimensions.
